The evolution of the lexicon of ancient optics is described through the 'lens' of the Codices of France. The approximately 220 entries of the glossary are examined in their various meanings and usage, compared with their Vernacular and Latin antecedents, and with the treatises of the XVIth century. It is a catalogue where different disciplines converge, with impressive original content and groundbreaking language, to show and describe Leonardo's experience as a scientist and a writer.
