Pierre Escudé

Toulouse was the third French city to give birth to printing, after Paris and Lyons. This new printing technology shaped the renewal of powerful political, religious, intellectual, and cultural structures, while also contributing to the vibrant commerce of goods and ideas. This first large study of printing in Toulouse covers the years 1475 to 1617 and provides an excellent analysis of the Occitan capital’s complexity during the Renaissance.
